Maintenance-free: Sealed ball bearings are packed in grease, eliminating any risk of corrosion and making them impermeable to impurities such as water, sand or dust.
Reliability: Systems are made from materials chosen for their toughness and reliability. The drums are made from dimensionally stable plastic, the ball bearings are 100 C6 carbon steel, and the snap hooks are forged by Wichard.
Easy to use: Profurl reefing-furling systems accessories (standard or not) are designed to simplify manoeuvres, such as the feeder (standard), the Wichard opening pre-feeder or the hinged attachment which replaces snap shackles to ensure fast and easy rigging of the sail.

The Profurl flying sails furlers are dedicated to improve the boat performances by raising quickly flying sails (gennaker, solent etc…). With a flying sails furler, sailing is not possible with the sail reefed. The installation and use enable to perform operations safely and simply.

Two versions are available:
> The NEX models with a spool: 4 models available equipped with a spool and a continuous line. This version enables to optimize the luff length and to save significant weight.

What is a flying sail furler with drum?
A continuous line furler is designed for handling “flying sails” (gennaker, staysails, light jibs, etc.). Flying sails are sails that are not permanently rigged (unlike a genoa on a reefing system) and are stowed below when they are not used.
Unlike a manual headsail reefing system, a furler only allows sailing with the sail completely unfurled. It does not allow sailing under reduced sail and does not contribute to supporting the mast. Drum furlers have a classic furling line like manual reefing-furling systems.

Because asymmetric spinnaker cloth is both light and fragile, the anti-twist cable has a tendency to damage it. Also, the cable spins faster than the sail during furling which means the latter sometimes jams. Profurl solution: Sail Bearing Technology comprises high-density spheres that spin freely around the anti-twist cable in order to protect the sail from the cable. Sail Bearing Technology allows you to:
• keep the sail away from the cable
• stop reverse furling, which causes the sail to jam
• reduce wear of the sailcloth
• make furling easier and faster because it has a greater diameter

Comfort, safety and performance
The Profurl in-boom furlers are dedicated to furling, raising and lowering fully battened mainsail. Hoisting or reefing the mainsail is a simple and safe operation as the control of mainsail is performed from the safety of the cockpit thanks to the furling line. As the opposite of other systems, the Profurl in-boom furlers are designed also to increase boat performances by reefing fully battened mainsail with a standard roach.
Profurl offers two types of in-boom furlers:
> The MK0R and MK1R models are equipped with a Dacron luff sail and profile integrating a feeder and a luff track
> The MK2R, MK3R and MK4 models integrate aluminium luff profiles.

System components: The in-boom furling system includes:
An open boom containing the furling mandrel around which the sail is rolled.
A drum at the forward end of the boom to furl the sail.
Hinged luff extrusions at the rear of the mast which pivot in conjunction with the boom. Available on MK2R, MK3R and MK4 in-boom furling systems.
A sheave box rigged above the luff extrusions that guides the halyard up to the masthead.
A rigid boom vang that automatically maintains the ideal angle for perfect furling.
Safe and easy handling:
With a Profurl in-boom system, going to the mast to reef the main is a thing of the past. All operations are performed with the mainsail furling line from the safety of the cockpit. Whether raising, lowering or reducing sail, the crew can operate in complete safety.
Profurl in-boom furling systems are designed to operate with a fully-battened mainsail optimising the yacht’s performance. Unlike an in-mast furling system, the reduced weight aloft is both a safety factor (no excessive heel) and contributes to better performance.
As with all Profurl systems, in-boom furling systems require no special maintenance.
Profurl in-boom furling systems can be fitted to most masts with sliders. The boom profile can be cut to adapt it to the length required for the boat. For the system to function correctly the mainsail must be made to special specifications.
